This whole month is getting me down.
Some of us have lived our lives with autism, and have children with autism and love them not in spite of it, but because of it.
Without it, they wouldn´t be the wonderful children they are, and I wouldn´t be the confident and happy (in myself) person I am now.
My children are smart, and have unique perspectives on the world.
This man has other issues besides his ASD

This is just aggravating for someone who is himself diagnosed within the Autistic spectrum. I remember my parents telling me a story about the first time they sent me to a doctor when I was three (3). I was developmentally delayed, and my younger sister by about two years was a little less then two years younger then me was speaking better then I was, needless to say they where concerned.

The doctor said that "you need to prepare for the long haul, your son will be digging ditches". Until about the age of 17, doctors continued to undersell my potential, saying that I would never be able to live on my own without some level of assistance.

Grated I am on the High functioning side of the Autistic spectrum and being on the lower functioning requires a great deal of assistance for your entire life. The problem here is really is the term "Autism" is a very broad term it can mean a lot of different things (PDD-NOS, Asbergurs, etc) and we cannot allow a stereotype to persist. People like Gary McKinnon are no better the people who stereotyped African Americans, although some fit the description, it was in no way, shape or form indicative of the whole and the same applies to Autism.

To state that a person can have the mental age of 10 and can hack computers at the same time about the most absurd and ill informed statement on the planet. I am a computer programmer, this kind of stuff is my bread and butter you cannot hack into those types of systems without have a gifted intelligence.

To raise awareness is to do exactly that, explain that there are yes indeed bad and dark sides of Autism, but also there are beautiful graceful sides, and an insight into the Universe that only others with Autism could ever understand. I was once asked if I could get rid of my Autism, would I, the answer is a clear no, and that should be telling in so far I my attitudes to an organization that has a blanket statement like "Cure Autism".

by the way, I'm a girl but I have a man's brain, that's right - I have Asperger's. so fighting anyone physically I probably won't win cause I'm slim and small but I'll have a good go. I'm not scared of anybody - moms aren't! I'm 38, look 10 years younger and absolutely gorgeous! I am well-educated and very successful in my career. I guess that makes me.... NOT JEALOUS OF SOMEONE FAMOUS with Asperger's!!!!!!! Who is really suffering, by the way, NOT ENOYING the fame you're sop obviously coveting.

I actually care about Gary as a person - millions of people worldwide do. We don't all spend our miserable lives hiding behind closed doors you know.... now all autistics are bitter and twisted, well majority are not.

And the last thing on my mind, as a mother of two sons on the autistic spectrum would be to pick on someone who is being victimised for the - that's right - a NON-CRIME!

Maybe, it's true, some autistics DO have a problem with empathy.... but you mister are rare. All my autistic friends are true diamonds and care about people, care about justice and leap to protect the vulnerable, the forgotten, the scapegoats of this world because it's just the right thing to do.

Geez! what a moron! I thought this crap could only possibly be written by the Daily Mail ilk!!!!
