Universal Health Care Sucks for the Disabled

So the Obama administration seems to be really pushing to have a government run health care insurance system – basically where everyone gets their health insurance from the government.  As someone with a disability, and who is just about married to someone who has one in my humble opinion this sucks.  And here’s why…..

Obviously Society considers those with disabilities to be worth less then those who are “normal”.  This fad is already commonly seen in the United Kingdoms Health care, and it gravely concerns me that such errors would be also exercised over here.  The way I see it is the government will see people with disabilities less productive to society – and as such offer them less health care services on the Universal Health Care plan.

Universal Health Care has many concerns for me – Does it Concern You?

I’m sorry that’s just not intelligent, i understand that SSD is not sufficient but saying that they will decrease care for disabled people is not credible

I don’t think it matters if it’s nationalized health care or private health care. Mistakes are made all the time, and not just in the care of people with disabilities. In a recent case, film star Dennis Quaid’s newborn twins were given a massive overdose of Heparin due to negligence. Dennis Quaid is rich, famous, has no disability (neither do his wife or kids), and was entrusting the care of his babies to the world famous Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

The article you cite is peculiar–what exactly do the British mean when they use the term “learning disability”? What does something like, say, dyslexia have to do with the care you might receive in a hospital? Why would the hospital even know the patient had dyslexia? Does “learning disability” mean something else that I’m not aware of, or are they using it as a euphemism for MR?

Does the NHS in Britain withhold coverage to people with disabilities if they are not “productive”? I’ve never heard of this before.

We already have socialised medical care for some peopel in the form of medicare/medicaid. And when you show up with that as your insurance you are treated differently/worse than someone with private insurance. If there is universal care avail in hte USA, i see this trend will either stay the same, or, maybe, we’ll get treated a little better since we’ll stand out a little less.

In Canada, universal health care means everyone can afford to go to a doctor for basic health care. If you break your leg or need surgery for something, you’re covered. Not all services are covered, though, and people with specialized needs may not have coverage for those specialized needs. But nobody gets less than the basics unless there’s some barrier like not being able to leave the home, or not being able to find a doctor in your area. Of course, communication problems can be a barrier. But it shouldn’t be that hard to find a doctor who will let you communicate in writing if needed.

I believe most Health Care Sucks disabled or not. I am disabeld but prior to, even with the best insurance, i received terrible Health Care! Most Doctors spend about 5 – 10 minutes with you, slap you with a script, and boot you out the door. This is not allways the answer, in fact in my opinion rarely is. They are trained by the Pharmecutical Companies to treat the symptom rather than look for the root cause. Then we wonder why Health Care costs so much. Its because people are not getting well, in most cases sicker, & most of the time from the medicaions that they are dispensed. A pill for the side effects of a pill. This is ridiculous! I am discusted with Most Doctors and the system. Its all about the almighty buck, most cases not the patient! I believe that if I received proper health care in the first place, I wouldn’t be disabled !
