Every once in a while I get a comment from someone who is either mislead or just frankly not that bright. Today is one of those days.In a comment posted to an article on Christian Healing Timuchin writes:
Aspergers will never be healed; it is genetic. Autism is not genetic at all, but is caused by poisons. I subscribe to an autism chelation forum, reading about their struggles and victories of getting out from under it. I think Aspergers comes from Homo Neanderthal genes that are mixed in with sapiens. We are just on the wrong planet.
While I agree Aspergers is genetic, likely with some environmental triggers added in I feel that identifying those genes as coming from neanderthal’s is a bit much. What do you think?

I think this person is very badly confused, and needs to study psychology, genetics, evolution, and anthropology a bit more before they start making foolish wild claims. Asperger’s is a new step in evolution, not a step backwards. In ancient villages people like us likely wouldn’t have survived, or if we did we wouldn’t be allowed to marry and breed. It’s obvious we’re relatively new.
“In ancient villages people like us likely wouldn’t have survived, or if we did we wouldn’t be allowed to marry and breed.”
Not allowed to marry and breed? Are you kidding?
In some ancient villages and even some forced-marriage customs today, marriages were arranged with little regard for the groom’s personality and no regard for the bride’s personality. When marriage depended on bride prices, dowries, horoscopes, and (in villages where cousins got married off to each other) number of relatives instead of depending on using social skills, an aspie could get married off just as easily as a neurotypical could!
