The Valentines Date

So last night Kate and I had our valentines day a bit early, and kind of unplanned – but it was awesome, and it included some support from friends to deal with the overwhelming crowd – without them knowing they were supporting us.

Brian Fraaza and A Great Bunch of Guys

Brian Fraaza and A Great Bunch of Guys

Kate and I have been going to church together for quite some time, and one of the Worship Pastors – Brian Fraaza was scheduled to play at a  local upscale Jazz Bar play with the locally famous sudo-band A Great Bunch of Guys.  So we decided we would show up and listen to Brian play and also use it as our Valentines Day date.

Kate and I showed up at the restaurant around 7:00 and were seated about 7:45 – and it was packed.  There was a lot of noise and it was very overwhelming.  Just as I started getting a bit too overwhelmed Brian showed up and after carrying in his equipment he joined us at the table, and shortly after that another pastor from the church, Wil joined us with his daughter.

Being able to be with friends in hindsight in an environment like this was one of the best ideas ever – and I didn’t know I was going to be doing this for valentines day until noon the same day of the event.  For me having friends around made it so much more enjoyable and less overwhelming.  Kate said she had a great time as well.

Don’t Be Stereotypical On Valentines Day

After leaving the restaurant at after midnight (yes we stayed for 5 hours) I realised how much this was not a stereotypical valentines day date where its just the two of you sitting across from each other eating a dinner being absolutely so nervous that you are never able to enjoy yourself.

I didn’t realise how awesome this valentines day was until after it was over and I was walking her to her door.  Instead of it being the two of us being absolute nervous – we were able to hang out and laugh with friends and have a really great night, but I have to ask…..

What would be your perfect valentines day date?

Am glad y’all had a good time.

M’self, I’m still a bit uncomfortable with guitar music in Church, ‘specially electrically amplified. (hurts my ears)

I’ve resigned myself to it where I currently attend, as there are also some traditional hymns, and the pastor and his assistant both play Kaman, that is, Ovation, guitars. (real engineers’ guitars)

We’ve had Christians for 2000 years; we’ve had electricity for maybe 200 years. If I had my druthers we’d do Divine Services without electricity.

Sorry, I’m 50-something and grew up singing traditional hymns to organ music.

What a wonderful way to spend Valentine’s especially with your friends and of course Kate.

My perfect Valentine’s? I don’t know (for the moment).
