I’m so sick of WMU Students trashing up my neighborhood, drinking and having sex on the grass. It is so retarded.
Got Your Attention?
The statement I just made, while it may not be an insult to the students of Western Michigan University is an insult to many people out there. While the medical and psychological community no longer uses the term retarded, and has instead chosen the word “intellectually impaired” it remains an insult to these people when the word “Retard” is used to describe stupid behaviors, decisions or actions.
I remember when I first when into special education, my brother loved trying to set me off – so he got me mad and then said, “At least I don’t go to a retard school.” Nothing sets me off like using the word retard as an insult or to describe stupid behavior or decisions. My brother was laying on the ground crying with a bloody nose in under a minute. I should of said at least my nose is not bleeding – but my wit was not that quick in my childhood.
Instead of saying “Thats retarded” is it social acceptable to say “Thats female, Thats republican, Thats mexican” or any other thing along these lines. So when did it become acceptable to say “Thats retarded?”

Hate it when ppl use the “ReTard” or Are u a Retard? line or refer to someone belonging on the “Short Bus”. I always bring it to their attention when I hear it. Most ppl don’t realize that there are always individuals & families behind those thoughtless words.
Here, here. I hate hearing people say “that’s so gay”…or “that’s retarded”. People used to call me retarded because I am high functioning Autistic, but I have a lot of low functioning things about me too. I hate it when the word is used period. It isn’t nice and people need to think before they speak.
All of these word…”retard” “waterhead” are used as put downs, no?
So is “that’s so gay!” or calling someone a “fat fuck.”
The question really shouldn’t be when did it become acceptable to use those particular words, but when did it become acceptable to rip down fellow human beings for their characteristics like that?
I’m not just a lesbian. I am a transsexual woman, and proud of it. I have a brain that did not match my body. That’s pretty unique, and now that I have gone through transition, I look back and find it all fascinating. Yet I can be (and have been) ripped down in seconds by some callous jerk, who doesn’t realize that my struggle with identity is in fact, part of my identity, and makes me a just as valuable a voice as anyone else!
If someone wants to know about being bullied…I’ve have *plenty* of knowledge about that. I also learned how to be strong in the face of it. Surely, that is important information for other human beings. If someone wants to know about coming out, or being out, I have loads of experience to share. I see the world, and I see my spirituality, as being inextricably tied to my own “dysphoric dysfunction.” I wouldn’t wish it on anybody, but I have come to know that I would not trade my experiences for anything!
All eyes can see God’s Spirit, and no one’s vision is less than valuable in seeing God. In fact, it is wrong to decry others.
I think it’s ok to say /b/tard. Those guys are proud of being morally retarded and love to wallow in their ill fame.
