A survival guide on how to survive singles awareness day, also known as Valentines Day.
Yesterday I suggested some gift ideas on valentines day for those lucky people in a relationship, but the fact is most people with Aspergers Syndrome are single – and most of them desire a relationship. So Valentines Day becomes singles awareness day. As someone who never dated until I was nineteen I hated valentines day – even more after I broke up with my first girlfriend.
Stay Away From Cooties:
No I don’t mean the cooties that girls had in elementary school that would cause boys to run in disgust. A fact is on Valentines Day people flaunt the fact that there in love getting all cuddly and affectionate in public. When I was single I used to keep my windows covered so I didn’t have to see all the college age students that live in my area hanging all over each other, because I knew it would always remind me of something I don’t have. So try and avoid places that people will be hanging all over each other.
Distract The Mind:
Doing your favorite activity at home on Valentines Day will keep your mind distracted. I remember last Valentines day I stayed home and watched Star Trek DS9 all day and played a Star Trek computer game. (You can substitute Star Wars for Star Trek too – its just not as awesome as Star Trek). It’s one of my Aspergers Focuses – I could watch Star Trek over and over and over for days on end. Just make sure you can get back to your life after singles awareness day is over.
Single Friends:
Have a singles party with a bunch of your single friends, play some games, eat some food. There’s nothing like a good friend when your feeling horrible – so why not throw a party!
I Need Your Help:
I’m working on a video to show that people with Aspergers and other Autism Spectrum Disorders can live successful lives. I want to use a valentines day so if your in mad love, and don’t mind sending a picture of you and your better looking half (also known as significant other) use the contact form at the top of the page. Tomorrow I write about Sweet Valentines Dates for those who get overwhelmed with crowded areas.
