But it is interesting that the audience likes the idea that this fictional character may be on the spectrum because many people can identify with it. Spectrum traits are part of our common humanity, things that many, or perhaps even most, people can identify with, regardless of whether or not the people doing the identifying (the audience) or the one getting the label (the fictional character) could be given the label in a clinical sense. We share similar and overlapping struggles, and in that we are united. I call house the embittered Aspie, the one who has been cast to the outside and been tramped on by those he did care about for so long that eventually he decided to shut them out, believing that everyone has an angle, because everyone in the past that tried to get close to him had an angle. My dad was alot like this, and I see many simularities between him and House. And there is hope my friend. I have talked about him briefly before, but I am in a healthy, rewarding, and incredible relationship with someone, and we have pledged to be married when the time is right. It is a wonderful and beautiful thing. And he and I are both Aspies! In fact, we are so much alike that all of our family and friends call us the male and female versions of each other! lol. I feel for Kate. Having a duel diagnoses of Asperger's and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (I was severly abused by my step brother, physically and sexually, and he tried to kill me daily over a period of nearly a decade including putting a gun to my head and pulling the trigger *thank God for jamming the gun!) Due to that, I have very violent flash backs severe enough that when I come out of them, bruises I had from that time reappear on my skin. That makes relationships difficult, as you can imagine! I got through with emergency therapy sessions, but most of all, my youth group and my dearly loved Granny and God got me through. I still have issues that my beloved boy does not understand that go back to what happened to me. But he is willing to learn, and will stick by me forever. He tells me all the time he will never let me go, which is what I need to hear. And I believe that is what Kate may need to hear. That no matter what happens, no matter what her mental issues have in store for her, you will remain by her side, and nothing and no one will keep you from being at her side! That IMO is what she needs to hear from you. And hearing it constantly doesn't hurt. :) I happen to be a fan of the show as well YES!!
