Homemade Felt Texture Stuff

As many people are aware Autism and some textures just don’t work out.  Well I have a friend who creates home made felt hats, pillowcases, bags and plenty of other things.   Yes – I’m guilty of plugging a friends bossiness, but seriously I love the texture of felt and its so comforting to me.

Suzanne Higgs of Hooked On Felt is just that Hooked On Felt – every time I leave her house I have to pick pieces of felt off my clothing.  But some of her creations are just absolutely stunning.  I remember she made a pillowcase and the texture of it was absolutely amazing and so comforting to me.  Lately I’ve been thinking about how hard it is for me to find textures that I like and comfort me, and knowing how hard it is for others on the Autism Spectrum to find comforting textures as well.

Some of the creations she makes can be found on her felting blog, which is a great blog to read for those who have an art obsession.  Shes an artistic nerd, getting all giggity about felting stuff as if it was me and technology. (Note if you read this Suzanne thats not meant as an insult, and the world needs nerds of every kind.)

For those who have time, are way more artistic then I am and have the do it yourself attitude you can buy several felting kits and wool to work with at her store. I’ve seen her work on several of her projects and they don’t seem to be that difficult to work on if you have time, patience and are artistic.  Shes has plenty of colors and variations of felt to choose from, which I believe are died at her shop by herself.

So if you have some time and are looking for some great artistic things with a very comforting texture, you should really check out Hooked On Felt, and if your an artistic person who loves to talk about artsy things check out her felting blog and read some of her thoughts on felting.

Eugh. You’re the complete opposite to me on that one; felt just gets me. I can’t stand the feel of felt, or even looking at it. Heck, even felt pens get me going when I hear the damn things rubbing against paper. *shivers*
