Although details are kinda sketchy at this time, A Grand Junction, Colorodo shot his teenage son - who has Aspergers Syndrome in the face when he was sleeping September 11th. The man told his wife, “I had to kill him because you were ruining him.” and then fired more rounds into his Son’s face.
Although it if this alleged murder has anything to do with with this teenager’s Autism or not, its still a sad thing. I ask that everyone who reads this think of 13 year old Jacob Grabe - as well as other people with disabilities that were killed by there parents or guardians. Its a pretty clear sign that more services are needed not only for people with disabilities, but there families as well.

The sadest thing I have heard in a while my prayers go out to the family
From reading the articles, it sounds like the dad has his own very serious mental health issues, and it could be he would have killed his son even if he had been NT. Quite a commentary on the lack of a mental health support system in the USA for people with mental health issues! How many stories have there been in the news in the last 10 years about people with schizophrenia killing family members in our country??? There’s just no help for them. They are the next big group of people who need to be recognized and supported by society!
So, is it worth it to hold people hostage if it might improve services? People who murder PWD’s should be punished exactly like anyone else. If we call lack of services mitigating circumstance, then in the minds of those who say services are not needed we are saying disability itself is mitigating circumstance. Do we not deserve the equal protection of the laws? Then our murderers deserve the equal condemnation of society, and until they receive it, you cannot look and not say “oppression.”
