People with Aspergers often have trouble with computer screen. A usual thing is getting migraines from constant flickering and trouble with the back light. There are some useful tips however to help you tolerate your monitor more and to help you when looking for a brand new computer monitor monitor.
The Refresh Rate
A common issue for those with Aspergers is the refresh rate. This is the amount of time a second that a computer monitor refreshes the image. People with Aspergers can often see the flicker while the monitor refreshes. There is a simple solution to this. All you have to do is increase the refresh rate! In windows this is a very simple task, and if you know how to do this in a Mac or on Linux please comment below and I will add it to the post! A word of warning though is many older monitors and graphics card do not support higher refresh rates and trying to make the refresh rate higher can cause issues.
In windows adding a higher refresh rate is actually quite simple. Just right click the desktop, click properties, click settings, then click the advanced button and then click the monitor tab. The refresh rate is located in this window. No try increasing the refresh rate one at a time until you find what you like. Better Back lights!
LCD Computer Monitors typically use florescent back lights – yes the same type of light thats in florescent light bulbs. There are newer monitors out there however that use LED back lights! These monitors are also much more energy efficient then there predecessors and you can even get organic LEDs now in your computer monitor’s backlight that contains all natural chemicals for those that really want to go green!
