After reading through my Aspergers/Autism news feed just a few minutes ago, I found a very disturbing article.   In may ComputerWorld magazine published an article on Aspergers and the Information Technology Environment.   The articile prompted a battle in the comments section on if Aspergers should be cured or not. Gary McKinnon is a hacker from Britain who is set to be extradited the United States.  McKinnon Allegedly hacked into the Pentagon’s computer system disabling and/or interrupting several national security systems while looking for info on UFO’s.  McKinnon’s defense is that the reason he hacked the United States Military was “as a direct result of following the obsessional interest which drives him.”  It upsets me this individual is using Aspergers as an excuse for his illegal actions. Although details are kinda sketchy at this time, A Grand Junction, Colorodo shot his teenage son - who has Aspergers Syndrome in the face when he was sleeping September 11th.  The man told his wife, “I had to kill him because you were ruining him.” and then fired more rounds into his Son’s face. A new movie entitled ‘Just Add Water’ was featured recently at a showing in Hawaii.  It featured the story of Clay Marzo a professional surfer who is also Autistic.  The movie follows around Clay during his surfing tours and shows how his struggles how he struggles with Aspergers.   EDIT: I added a trailer and info on how to buy the movie. Debbie Lockrey-Wessel wrote a book to explain Autism to kids. She wrote it after her experience of growing up with a younger brother that has Autism. The book helps children understand autism and explains that autism is not a disease you can catch. Read it all..

The WWE is apparently teaming up with Jenny McCarthy to raise money for her campaign on curing Autism.  While I never really understood what was entertaining about watching guys act like they are beating each other up and dressing like idiots I find this very disturbing.  The WWE has a crap load of money and apparently people pay a whole ton of money to see this stuff.  They also have fan-base of gullible people who think wrestling is real as well, so its a perfect audience for Ms. McCarthy.

On an Autism Side Note: My brother was a wrestling fan - when he watched the wrestling I was always more fasinated with the lighting and big projection screen!

I was reading an article on a hacker who got off without being convicted for infecting a million computers and causing millions of dollors in damage.  The Article was named Autistic Hacker Escapes Penalty. This really bugs me as the reason the hacker got off had nothing to do with him having Aspergers Syndrome.  It makes me wonder if there giving the Autistic Community a black eye in order to further sensationalize there story. Well it appears the story of Alex Barton an autistic child voted out of his kindergarten class by a vote initiated by his teacher has got the attention of the Florida Attorney General’s office, and they now want to hear from Autistic Individuals and their parents in the State of Florida.
