Autism United Harrases Travolta Family

Autism United has begun reaching out too, err more like harassing John Travolta’s family within a week of the death of their son Jett Travolta.  According to the press release issued to the LA Times by Autism United “His role as a parent who dealt with a child suffering seizures could help to thousands of families with children suffering similar problems”.

If your not familiar with Autism United is an organization that supports treatments such as Chelation, ABA, Anti-fungal and anti-yeast therapy (even though they say they don’t support everything on the list – then why would you list it?).  Autism United also has celebrities such as Jenny McCarthy who is a huge advocate idiot that supports mercury in vaccinations causing autism.

Am I the only one that thinks its wrong to presure a family this close to their sons death?

Even I, someone with Aspergers Syndrome – who does not understand all the social ques would not be harassing a family this close to their sons death – its inexcusable in my opinion to be harassing people trying to gain support for your cause why they are still in the grieving process.  This is not an appropriate time harass them into “[using] their son’s death and their celebrity to help thousands of parents, who are caring for sick youngsters” as an Autism United spokesman put their activities in a press release.

Scientology, Faith and Autism

The Travolta Family are avid believers in the Scientology Faith which views autism and other mental illnesses as psychosomatic and prescribes treatments of spiritual healing.

Thank you for posting that especially the, “Scientology, Faith and Autism” part! No I do not condemn the Travolta’s in their time of mourning. I am not a scientologist, nor religious, but I do look at all these sorts of things with faith and spirituality so I do not imagine I will ever look to condemn them.

I do not feel it is right to bombard a family after they are suffering grief. Let them be. There is the 5 stages of Grieving the Travolta’s are going through now.

Does anyone remember them?

thank you for posting this!

I wouldn’t believe everything you see when it comes to accusations of harrassment. I was accused, a few years ago, of harrassing people in front of an Autism Speaks benefit concert, where I was politely handing out vaccine safety flyers. I was accused by the women of Autism Speaks who organized the concert, and who wanted me to leave and stop handing out my information. I was threatened with arrest and police came. Tho I was harrassing no one.

You can call it Schadenfreude if you like (the Schandlichen Freud notwithstanding) but I just love it when the cranks fall out with each other.

It is like the Baptists angle on a Mormon trying to convert a Jehovah’s Witness, highly amusing from that perspective to watch the antics of two people who just do not get the full picture as they argue mislogic against mislogic.

I don’t see the press release replicated here — just an unattributed quote. Not credible.

Even if I don’t agree on the Scientology viewpoint on autism, no parent deserves to be harassed rigt after his/her child dies.
