If you may or may not know, Autism Sunday is rapidly approaching us – in 2009 the selected day is Febuary 8th. Autism is a neurological difference that effects approximently 1 in 150 children born today, as well as many adults and teenagers. As autism is a neurologial difference – it can not be cured and treated, although many therapies are available to make coping with sensory and socialization less difficult.
Here are some great suggestions for ideas on prayer as recommended by Autism Sunday:
- Pray for all people with autism and Asperger’s Syndrome.
- Pray for greater awareness of the condition.
- Pray for better public services in health, education, specialist speech therapy and respite care.
- Pray for tolerance and understanding towards people with autism and Asperger’s Syndrome.
- Pray for access to training and jobs for people with autism and Asperger’s syndrome.
- Pray for the sick, the elderly the shut-in.
- Pray for parents and carers of children and adults with autism and Asperger’s Syndrome.
- Pray for national governments that they will provide public services and listen to the voices of disability communities.
- Pray for teachers in mainstream schools and special schools that they will think of real educational strategies to help children with autism and Asperger’s Syndrome.
- Pray that governments will build, staff and resource specialist autism school or autism units with sensory rooms to support children who need specialised, structured help.
- Pray for medical professionals as they reach out to all people with autism and Asperger’s syndrome.
- Pray for the improvement of communication and social skills for children and adults with autism and Asperger’s Syndrome.
Autism Sunday also offers some great prayer ideas for the Autism Needs in the UK:
- Please pray for the call by Peers in the House of Lords for the Prime Minister to set up an Autism Taskforce.
- Please pray that the Government will consult more widely with other Government Departments, the Voluntary Sector, Parentss Groups, Community Groups and Faith Groups.
- Pray for the Prime Minister Gordon Brown and Children’s Secretary Ed Balls that they will see the suffering that some parents, carers and people with autism are going through – that they will genuinely try to provide public services for all.
- Please pray that the Prime Minister will heed the call for a national strategy on autism and a 10 year plan of action on autism and Asperger’s Syndrome.
- Pray for the Christians in Parliament Group, that MPs belonging to this group will ‘speak up for those who cannot speak up for themselves’ and lobby on behalf of those who are suffering without statements, without public services and for the poor.
- Pray for Lee Scott MP who has been championing the cause of autism in the House of Commons. Pray for the work of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Autism.
I would like to offer some suggestions on prayer ideas for the United States and Autism in General:
- Please pray that the Obama administration seek the advice of Autistic Individuals when developing strategies on Autism.
- Please pray that insurance companies be forced to cover scientifically proven therapies.
- Please pray for growing communication between Autism Self-Advocates and lawmakers.
- Please pray that needs of Autistic Individuals can be met in the slow economy.
- Please pray that lies that are harming the autistic community be squashed.
- Please pray for acceptance of the Autistic Community in the church, community, by employers, educational institutions and wherever they may go.

It is so good to see this on Autism Sunday, saw another reference to Aspie Web in Blogger News re President Barack Obama and Autism Sunday. Lets hope he will speak up for autism on 8th February 2009. Just hope that churches will do something about Autism Sunday, such an important date.
Prayer does not work, or else christians would be better off than atheists, right?
Christians would be healthier (they always pray for that don’t they?) They’d earn more money, etc.
None of these things apply, so you can bet, that it won’t make a difference if you pray go ahead and waste your time, but do not arrogantly assume that “praying for ALL people with Aspergers and Autism” is appreciated, some of us are atheists, who couldn’t care less.

Prayer does work…. as far as money – its not the most important thing and the money you have on earth is just temporary – the riches you have in heaven are more important.

Jenny Mccarthy, in her book, “mother warriors” , claims people whose children aren’t cured of autism ‘must not want to be left alone in their autism,’ as if, if your child isn’t cured according to the Mccarthys of the world, then you must not want your child to be cured, because she also claims, if you ‘believe ‘ your kid will be cured, the “universe” has to agree, according to the “laws of the universe” which is a radical new age philosphy spreading in autism community. McCarthy also says in the book she prays to a deceased child to be her child’s “guardian.” Nevermind the bible says it’s forbidden to speak to the dead, because you will most likely be speaking to demonic beings. Wake up parents. Oprah, Jenny McCarthy and others like them, follow people like the husband and wife Hicks seen here on http://www.lawofattractioninteraction.com/autistic-revolution.php The Hicks are people who claim to have spoken with alien beings(demons no doubt) and now “advise” people with autistic children or who work with autistics….scary….5150′s no doubt….these spiritually compromised and pernicious persons have infiltrated the autism community and people aren’t exposing them enough …these infiltrators need to be exposed for what they are. They bring confusion, compromise and corruption. They say things to desperate parents to mislead them and send them on a wild goose chase for cures that seldom apply.to real case autism..these are storytellers. Frauds. Fakes. Actors. Mccarthy’s kid NEVER had autism. He had febrile seizurs and subsequent asphasia…couldln’t walk for awhile….then he recovered..as he would’ve without gluten or her law of attraction thoughts…The kid had, (accouding to one doctornot on Jenny’s payroll or influenced by her celebrity) Laundau Klaffner or 50 other acute disorders than resemble autism….has anyone studied the stories these fakes print? Does Dutton or other publishers give a damn about the truth? Do they notice new age freaks and frauds? These new ager con artists pushing 100% fool proof autism cures are no better than those in the Christian community (and I’ m a christian) who stand on TV and lie and push the “faith alone” will cure you of all things….and if your kid isn’t cured, well, then you must not have enough faith…this is total bull shit. God has a unique plan for all of us…it’s never a one size fits all approach…life is not a two hour happy ending hollywood movie or a one hour seminar….most of us raising truly autistic children know the truth..and you’re not hearing in these bull shit books being published right now…mccarthy claims to have had her assed kicked by autism, NO, I say she needs her ass kicked by a mother of a child with real autism….that’s right, I said it. I’m sick of this shit. I’m sick of the lies. I’m sick of parents being mislead. I’m sick of too many kids carrying the autism label who AREN’t autistic. This has got to stop. Somebody has to tell the friggin truth here. And I’m tired of the gluten free bull shit. If your child was damaged by vaccines that means the brain is injured, removing gluten isn’t going to change that….look in the book “NORD” rare disorders and you;ll see that there are dozens of disorders that mimic autism…and almost ever disorder that mimics autism you see in that book, some mom or parent has said their kid was autistic, wrote a book about a cure and now everyone thinks that is a cure for autism….when the kids was never autistic! Hello! is anyone checking the facts of these claims in these books? Jesus, what the f..is wrong with thet autism community….have these groups lost their collective minds…yes they have…it’s called money has blinded them..Or, maybe they are just so desperate for help and understanding they don’t have time to check the facts….God help us..
