It Needs To Stop!

in Advocacy

People with Autism are currently trying to advocate for their needs in public policy related to Autism – however their is only one huge problem.  They are being denied by large scale organizations built to advocate for Autism, and government organizations that listen to these organization’s lobbyists.  This has to and must stop now!

What Do You Mean?

Currently autistic people advocating for their own good are being locked out of national autism steering committees, autism speaks has bullied autistic people who speak out against their organization, and even threatened their parents with lawsuits on occasion too.

Why?

Its simple, these organizations which advocate for Autism – such as Autism Speaks are businesses, businesses that cash in on the old stereotypes that people with Autism are worthless, and that the devastating disease called autism must be eradicated from society.  These stereotypes must be put behind us, in order for society as a whole to grow.

I agree. In going back through your links, something that has struck me is that it’s important to get legal advice before backing down on this issues, e.g., parodying, using a trademarked name, etc. I have a feeling the parody was probably more protected that the T-shirt, but a lawyer could say for sure. Is there someone sympathetic to the cause of advocacy by people with autism for people with autism who could donate services? Good luck!
