Aspergers and Depression

by Zach on February 9, 2010

in Therapy

Its pretty common knowledge that Aspergers and depression go hand in hand, so should depression is Aspergers be treated with anti-depressants or therapy.  I believe that if the depression is the result of a deficit in skills therapy should be provided to help the skills of the person, rather then using an anti-depressant.  I think using an anti-depressant should be a last resort type thing, as it introduces sometimes horrible side effects and sometimes even death.

i’ve been thru cognitive behavioral therapy CBT – a waste of my time seeing a psych for this, i cld hv bought a book (there is a great one out there by Valerie Gaus – just google) and done it myself… it works as far as ‘positive thinking’ works – i.e. some

meds? i wish i cld find a magic pill to pop – but anti depression meds can hv the side effect of causing more depression and even suicidal tendencies in some… i took something once long ago and i had terrible side effects… never tried again… but i kw it works well for some of my friends, both NTs and aspies…

go figure…
