Adoption Agency Discriminating

in Aspergers Living,pregnant

As I posted earlier today I had an important meeting with the adoption agency today.  It went as expected, horribly.  The adoption agency has chosen to discriminate against me because I have Aspergers Syndrome.  They have even admitted this to me on the phone, and to my social worker at the hospital.  Because I have Aspergers I have not been allowed too:

  • Make decisions regarding the adoptive family of my daughter
  • See my daughter
  • Meet the adoptive family
  • Have a say in the name of my daughter
  • Get pregnancy counseling

I am extremely upset about this right now.  What should I do?  You can read more of my feelings about this at my personal blog as I’m trying to separate this blog from personal life.

That is discrimination sir, and the kind that is against the law! My suggestion is to call your local Protection and Advocacy office and report all these things to them. They can advixe on legal matters and perhaps will be able to help you find a lawyer who will take your case pro-bono.

I would fight this my friend! No body has the right to discriminate on a label! I can start looking up your local P&A office and get you the number if you would like. They have overstepped thier bounds in a large way! Having Asperger’s is not an legal excuse to keep away someone’s child or allowing the parent some part of the decision making process.

Don’t just take thier word for it and let them do this to you. Fight! Fight for the sake of your child! I would if it were me. I would fight to the death! Here, let me get you that number for your Protection & Advocacy office.

……

Looks like I only found thier website. But it has numbers on there. It doesn’t say it takes on this kind of case specifically on the page, but do not let that deter you from calling them. And I would do it as soon as possible!

“I would fight this my friend! No body has the right to discriminate on a label!”

That’s right, nobody has the right to discriminate against you because of a label put on you!

However, everybody has the right to assume that you mean what you say. If you told them something you don’t mean, and they behave as though you meant it (instead of going “he can’t help it, he has Asperger’s, he must have meant something better instead of what he just told us”) then that’s not discrimination at all.

Personally, I’ve distanced myself from some people who kept insulting me then got mad at me for treating them as though they meant what they said and did. I could have stayed close to them and kept telling myself “she says he means well but is less interested in culture than science,” “he says she means well but English isn’t her native language,” and all their other excuses for insulting me, but I don’t want to keep hearing people insult me in the first place so I keep my distance.

Sounds like you already made up your mind. If you’re not willing to fight you deserve only the scraps your masters hand to you.

I just can’t stand the fighting anymore.

Or maybe it’s your behavior and suicide talk.

I’m sure you signed away your parental rights. This SOP in adoption.

Maybe I’m suicidal because I’m loosing my daughter and getting no support from the adoption agency.

I have not signed anything for the adoption agency.
